The Goonies (1985)

An action romance movie that is displays a bunch of misfit kids that decide to follow a map to find hidden treasure. They need to save their small town 'The Goon docks' from property developers. A one time film that has no other films that intertwine with it, a cult classic fit for all ages that everyone is sure to love.

Cast

Directed and written by Steven Spielberg with screenplay from Chris Columbus. The acting cast consists of Sean Astin, Josh Brolin, Jeff Cohen, Corey Feldman, Kerri Green, Martha Plimpton, Jonathan Ke Quan and Robert Pantoliano. The cast as well as the widely famous director, writer and screenwriter Steven Spielberg co-operate to display a gripping adventure film about a mis-fit bunch of kids searching for treasure to save their town.

Plot Summary

Mikey (Sean Astin) when up in his attic with his misfit and goofy friends; Mouth (Corey Feldman), Chunk (Jeff Cohen), and Data (Jonathan Ke Quan) come across a map that resembles and reminds them of stories that Mikeys would tell him when he was a child, The story of One-Eyed Willy an infamous pirate known for stealing everyones treasure, until he became trapped in a cave with nothing but his crew mates, his ship and the gold. The pirates and goons created tunnels full of 'booby-traps' riddled throughout the tunnels. Mikey and his friends accompanied by his older brother and his two female friends find themselves on this adventure through the tunnels to find the infamous treasure and save their town the 'Goon-Docks.'

Production Value

The budget for the film was $19 million USD, with it's release it made $61.5 million in Box office which is quite impressive for a film released pre the 21st century. The film appealed largely to the ages of 10-30 as the film has a youth vibe to it as the actors and cast are all around that age and the movie may come across cheesier to audience of the older age brackets.

Star Value

★★★★★
I give The Goonies (1985) a 5 out of 5, This movie ticks all the boxes for me as it displays all the necessary features for a film. It has a sense of danger that intrigues the viewer, aswel as adventure as the plot surrounds finding hidden gold and treasures. Not only this but it has a sense of romance within the film to add the perfect piece to an already perfect puzzle.
